Summary
Enter your target lift weight and barbell weight to instantly see which plates to load on each side — in lb or kg.
How it works
- Select your unit system: lb (pounds) or kg (kilograms).
- Enter the weight of your barbell (default: 45 lb or 20 kg).
- Enter your target total lift weight (barbell + all plates combined).
- The calculator subtracts the barbell weight to find the total plate weight needed.
- It divides that by two to get the weight per side.
- A greedy algorithm picks the fewest plates starting from the heaviest available, listing exactly which plates to load on each side.
Use cases
- Quickly figure out which plates to grab before a working set.
- Avoid mental math when warming up to a heavy squat, bench, or deadlift.
- Learn barbell loading as a beginner unfamiliar with standard plate sets.
- Plan plate changes between sets during a competition warm-up.
- Convert a program written in lb to kg or vice versa and verify the loading.
- Coach athletes remotely by specifying exact plate configurations.
- Double-check that you have loaded the bar correctly before a heavy lift.
