Summary

Select each applicable risk factor to calculate the Padua Prediction Score and determine whether pharmacological VTE prophylaxis is indicated.

How it works

  1. Review each of the 11 risk factors and check every one that applies to the patient.
  2. Each checked factor adds its assigned point value (1 or 3 points) to the running total.
  3. The tool calculates the total score and classifies it as Low Risk (0–3) or High Risk (4+).
  4. A prominent recommendation indicates whether pharmacological prophylaxis is suggested.
  5. Use Reset to clear all selections and assess a new patient.

Use cases

  • Screen all admitted medical inpatients for VTE risk on the day of admission.
  • Support the decision to initiate LMWH, fondaparinux, or unfractionated heparin prophylaxis.
  • Identify low-risk patients where prophylaxis can safely be deferred.
  • Document structured VTE risk assessment in the medical record.
  • Educate medical students and residents on evidence-based VTE prevention.
